On Friday, August 03, 2015, in the anticipation of Kaylee's mission call to come soon, I (mom) called the Santa Clara Post Office at 8:30 in the morning to see if by chance the call was here. The sweet lady said she would ask. I could hear in the background, "Sister Kaylee Brooks? Yes, her call is here!" I was so excited and was hoping I could pull off this surprise. I asked the lady on the phone that Kaylee would be coming to the post office in about thirty minutes to drop off some packages and could she please give her the envelope then? I asked them if I could come and video tape the event. We don't do surprises very well in our house, we can't keep secrets. I knew Kaylee was suppose to go to the post office this morning to drop off some packages for her sister-in-law, Teria. Kaylee was hoping I would do the errand for her but I had told her it will be an easy job job for her to do on her way to her classes at the college. How do I get out of the house without Kaylee asking if I would run the packages to the post office? Well, I just left. I didn't tell her. As I was driving to the Post Office, I called her to tell her that I am sorry- I left and did not say goodbye- I was in a hurry to get to the store and and then back home before a certain time and I failed to say goodbye. (I actually did have to go to the store and hurry home- I just didn't mention the detour to the Post Office) She said, "Oh Mom, you could have taken these packages for me!" (I wasn't dumb. I saw that coming. I had to do what I had to do). She did think it was weird that I would leave and not say goodbye, but oh well! I had asked her Dad to call me and warn me when she left so I could be set up and hiding and ready to record. I received a call from Dad and Chris (brother). I started shaking- remember?- we don't do surprises, we just aren't good at it. When I arrived at the Post Office, they told me I could hide in the Post Master's office. Wow, perfect spot to hide and not be seen. Everything was PERFECT, the surprise worked- pretty cool and very exciting!!!! :)
